FM:Systems public distance learning classes are live, instructor-led sessions presented online that include a hands-on lab where students are able to work through the activities and exercises in a remote training environment. This program covers the most popular training topics and offers you the added benefit of networking with your FM peers from around the country. Content for Dashboards

Creating attractive, effective Dashboards in FM:Interact requires the right building blocks. In this two hour class you’ll learn the tips and tricks to create HTML and Report elements that will fit together to make an FM:Interact Dashboard that will look great and communicate the information you want. If you’re considering using FM:Interact Dashboards, this is the place to start. Then use what you’ve created in the Building Dashboards class. If you already know how to create FM:Interact Dashboards, take their appearance to the next level.

Intended Audience: Users who are responsible for creating or maintaining Reports, Dashboards, or Homepages in FM:Interact. Additionally FM:Interact administrators who are interested in better understanding what content can be displayed in an FM:Interact Dashboard.

Building Dashboards

Learn how to create, manage and assign FM:Interact Dashboards. Learn how to create FM:Interact Dashboard templates, design Dashboards by adding pre-made elements, and how to assign and use Dashboards as role, module, site or building homepages.

This course complements “Content for Dashboards.”

Alternative Workplace Strategies

FM:Interact version 8.2 added Alternative Work Space (AWS) features as part of the Space Management Module. Learn what’s offered with AWS and how it can benefit your organization. Walk through exercises to create “zones”, assign employees, and report against utilization targets.

Introduction to the Trace Feature

Let’s say you want to capture the details of your computer network, from switching hardware in the datacenter right down to the data-jack on the wall plate and every cable in between. FM:Interact version 8.2 now includes a “Trace Feature” which allows users to create and track networks of related information and “walk” that network from one end to the other.

Course Level: Intermediate

Intended Audience: FM:Interact users, Space Planners and Administrators who are familiar with the FM:Interact product and want to learn more about the Trace feature introduced in FM:Interact 8.2.

Cost: 1 training credit or $250.


Scenario Planning

Do you need more space, but are unsure of the solution? What if you reconfigured a floor plan? What if you obtained more space? How do you evaluate your options, and choose the best solution? Using the Scenario Planning module, space planners can evaluate multiple options to resolve a space occupancy problem. The process is iterative and, by creating and modifying various scenarios, a space planner can refine and optimize scenario projects.

This course is an overview of the Scenario Planning module and provides a foundation of knowledge and skills to begin your use of the Scenario Planning module.

Intended Audience: FM:Interact Space Planners with 12 months experience with FM:Interact

Course Objectives

  • Define key terms and concepts related to Scenario Planning
  • Create a Scenario Project with scenario options
  • Use Stacking to assess the fit of a placement on a floor
  • Use Blocking to place assignments onto a floor plan
  • Create and promote a scenario
  • Promote a phase to the Move Management module

Knowledge and Skill Prerequisites

  • Comfortable with FM:Interact, including adding and editing data and using the floor plan viewer
  • Familiarity of Space Types and Space Standards used in your organization
  • Basic AutoCAD skills

SQL Views for Notifications

Would you like to refine the data, change the format, or add calculated results to your notifications? Learn how to create SQL Views for use in FM:Interact Notification.

Course Level: Advanced

Intended Audience: FM:Interact Administrators who are responsible for maintaining notifications. A general understanding of databases and a basic knowledge of SQL commands such as the SELECT statement is expected. A general understanding of FM:Interact tables, fields, and table relationships is helpful to get the most out of this course.

SQL Views for Pseudo Tables

Learn how to create SQL views that combine data from multiple source tables, reformat data for display, or create calculated values. SQL views are used when the source data already exists in the system but needs to be manipulated to get the most value. You’ll walk through exercises to create the SQL views in the database, add them to FM:Interact, and finally integrate them into existing FM:Interact Views.

Course Level: Advanced

Intended Audience: FM:Interact Administrators who are responsible for maintaining FM:Interact Data Dictionary. A general understanding of databases and a basic knowledge of SQL commands such as the SELECT statement is expected. A general understanding of FM:Interact tables, fields, and table relationships is helpful to get the most out of this course.

Asset Management

If you have FM:Interact, then you already have the Asset Management Module. If you are not yet taking advantage of the features this module offers, this class will show you how. Learn how to manage Asset Catalogs and Inventories in FM:Interact. Learn how to assign assets to spaces and employees. Walk through exercises linking asset blocks in your drawings to items in your inventory. Explore the advantages and drawbacks to each method of Asset Management so you can make the best decision for how to manage assets in your organization.

Course Level: Intermediate

Intended Audience: FM:Interact users who are familiar with the FM:Interact product and who want to start using the Asset Management Module. Basic familiarity with AutoCAD/FMCAD and the FM:Interact AutoCAD plug-in is needed to complete portions of this class concerned with managing assets through AutoCAD/FMCAD.

Cost: 1 training credit or $250.


Notification Services

You’re running FM:Interact with notifications. At implementation the email notifications sent out by the system met your organizational needs. Times have changed, and now your notifications need to change. This hands-on session presents the basics of notification services as well as the processes and steps to update and enhance email notifications.

Intended Audience: FM:Interact Administrators who are responsible for maintaining FM:Interact notifications.

Course Objectives

  • How the notification process works in FM:Interact. Features and limitations.
  • How to create an e-mail “event.”
  • How to create e-mail message content.
  • How to define a subscriber (recipient) for an e-mail; either a literal address or a query based address.
  • How to create an e-mail “subscription” that ties these elements together to make a notification.
  • How to use the e-mail logging table to be able to view what was sent.
  • How to create a notification as an “audit table” event instead of an e-mail.

Course Level: Intermediate

Knowledge and Skill Prerequisites

  • 2+ months experience using FM:Interact
  • Basic knowledge of HTML tags for formatting text is helpful but not mandatory.
  • Basic knowledge of FM:Interact tables and fields is helpful but not mandatory.

Tables, Views and Fields Part 1

So you want to expand the functionality of FM:Interact with new tables and views, how do you do that? This course focuses on the relationship between tables, fields and views, and how the relationship impacts what a user can see and do in FM:Interact.

Intended Audience: FM:Interact System Administrator with 3 to 6 months continuous hands-on experience with FM:Interact

Course Objectives:

  • Define what is a relational database and concepts associated with databases
  • Define a new table
  • Create relationships between tables
  • Create a look-up field
  • Create Queries for the new views and tables

Knowledge and Skill Prerequisites

  • Strong knowledge of web based applications including the ability to use the task bar, and multi-task between applications
  • Working knowledge of databases and relational databases
  • General knowledge of how your organization manage space (e.g., policies and procedures)


Course Length: One half-day hands-on session (approximately four (4) hours.

Tables, Views and Fields Part 2

This course continues from part 1, building your knowledge and skills for creating table relations (one to many and many to many), creating and modifying the behavior of views and fields and the impact on what a user can see and do in FM:Interact.

Intended Audience: FM:Interact System Administrator with 3 to 6 months continuous hands-on experience with FM:Interact

Course Objectives:

  • Define a new table
  • Create a many to many relationships between tables
  • Create a child view
  • Create Queries for the new views and tables

Knowledge and Skill Prerequisites

  • Strong knowledge of web based applications including the ability to use the task bar, and multi-task between applications
  • Working knowledge of databases and relational databases
  • General knowledge of how your organization manage space (e.g., policies and procedures)


Course Length: One half-day hands-on session lasting approximately four (4) hours.

Cost: 1 training credit or $250.


Dynamic Mapping Component

A new feature in FM:Interact 8.3! FM:Interact administrators can now easily create an interactive map of their building locations. Zoom into a campus to see individual building details and click on a building to be presented with a list of available floorplans. Use the dynamic mapping component as a homepage or Dashboard. New buildings are automatically added to the map. In this 90 minute session you’ll learn what’s required, and how to setup the dynamic mapping component for your organization.

Course Level: Beginner

Intended Audience: FM:Interact Administrator responsible for maintaining role homepages or dashboards. Space Planners interested in learning what information is required and what information can be presented via the dynamic mapping component.

Cost: 1 training credit or $250.


FM:Interact Space Reservations – Hoteling and Room Scheduling

This four hour course Introduce the Hoteling and Room Scheduling modules, describe several use cases and walks students through completing the most common tasks a user would perform with the Space Reservation Module.

Course Objectives

  • Understand capabilities of the Space Reservation Module
  • Create a hoteling or room scheduling entry in FM:Interact
  • Use filters to search for spaces that meet specific requirements
  • Identify spaces as being eligible for hoteling or room scheduling
  • Manage approvers for hoteling and room scheduling
  • Manage amenities, layouts and equipment related to room scheduling
  • Understand requirements for Outlook integration

Course Length: One half-day hands-on sessions. Each session runs approximately four (4) hours.

ADM101: Getting Started as an FM:Interact Administrator

This eight hour course focuses on the basic requirements to get started with the FM:Interact System Administration module.

Intended Audience: FM:Interact Administrators with 6 – 12 months hands-on experience with FM:Interact.

Course Objectives

  • Understand the duties of the FM:Interact Administrator
  • Modify the content and behavior of FM:Interact Views
  • Understand security concepts in FM:Interact including: Users, Groups, Roles, Privileges and Permissions
  • Add new users, groups and roles to FM:Interact
  • Design, create and Assign Dashboards as a homepage for a role, module, site or building

Knowledge and Skill Prerequisites: For an effective learning experience, participants must meet the following requirements prior to attending this class.

  • Beginner knowledge of relational databases
  • General knowledge of how your organization manage space (e.g., policies and procedures)
  • Six months experience using FM:Interact version 8.x


Course Length: Two half-day hands-on sessions. Each session runs approximately four (4) hours.

Cost: 2 training credits or $500.


SPC101: Getting Started with Space Management

This 8 hour course focuses on the basic requirements to get started with the FM:Interact Space Management module.

Intended Audience: FM:Interact Space Management users with 0 to 3 months hands-on experience with FM:Interact, or those upgrading from a previous version to version 8.x.

Course Objectives

  • Navigate the FM:Interact interface
  • Define a site, building, floor and other space related information in FM:Interact
  • Assign room attributes such as Space Type and capacity to rooms
  • Add Group and Occupancy information to FM:Interact
  • Create FM:Interact Queries
  • Create FM:Interact Graphic Views

Note: this course no longer includes lessons on integrating with AutoCAD or Revit to publish floor plans. Lessons on AutoCAD and Revit integration are offered in courses on those specific topics. Users who will be responsible for maintaining floor plans in FM:Interact are encouraged to also register for “AutoCAD for FM:Interact” or “Revit for FM:Interact” as appropriate.

Asset Management in FM:Interact

If you have FM:Interact, then you already have the Asset Management Module. If you are not yet taking advantage of the features this module offers, this class will show you how. Learn how to manage Asset Catalogs and Inventories in FM:Interact. Learn how to assign assets to spaces and employees. Explore the capabilities of Asset Management so you can make the best decision for how to manage assets in your organization.

Course Prerequisites
You must complete the installation of the WebEx software prior to training day. Move Management 201

Looking to get more out of your Move Management Module? This session will cover some advanced topics not usually covered in the Move Management course including configuring department approvers and move planners as well as modifying and managing your move types, move reasons, statuses, and other settings.

Course Level: Intermediate
Intended Audience: FM:Interact Administrators who are familiar with the FM:Interact product and Move Management Module and who want to configure or expand their current workflow.

Cost: 1 training credit or $250.


Facilities Maintenance 201

Looking to get more out of your Facilities Maintenance Module? This session will cover some advanced topics not usually covered in the Facilities Maintenance course including configuring Preventative Maintenance tasks, managing Service Centers, modifying Service Request routing, updating Categories and Activities, as well as other settings.

Course Level: Intermediate
Intended Audience: FM:Interact Administrators who are familiar with the FM:Interact product and Facilities Maintenance Module and who want to configure or expand their current maintenance workflow or Preventative Maintenance schedules.

Cost: 1 training credit or $250.


FMx Reporting – Creating Express Reports

FM:Interact version 8.5 introduces FMx Reporting, a web based report building tool allowing end users the ability to design and schedule their own ad-hoc reports. In this introductory course we’ll cover accessing the report designer, using the “Express Report” wizard to create basic tabular reports, and how to schedule reports.

Note: FM:Interact 8.5 or higher is required for FMx Reporting.

Course Level: Beginner
Intended Audience: FM:Interact users who want to create ad-hoc tabular reports.

Cost: 1 training credit or $250.


FMx Reporting – Beyond Express Reports

FM:Interact version 8.5 introduces FMx Reporting, a web based report building tool allowing end users the ability to design and schedule their own reports. In this intermediate course we’ll move beyond the Express Report Wizard and show how to take your reports to the next level using the Standard Report Designer. In addition we’ll look at report management features such as promoting and setting permissions for reports.

Note: FM:Interact 8.5 or higher is required for FMx Reporting.

Course Level: Intermediate
Intended Audience: FM:Interact users and administrators who want to create more advanced tabular or graphical reports not supported by the Express Report wizard.
Knowledge and Skill Prerequisites: This course builds on the skills introduced in the course “FMx Reporting – Creating Express Report”. The skills introduced in that course are not repeated in this session.

Cost: 1 training credit or $250.


AutoCAD for FM:Interact

In this 4 hour introductory course you will learn the requirements for using AutoCAD floor plan drawings with FM:Interact. You will learn the features of the FM:Systems AutoCAD Plug In, as well as best practices for polylines, layers, externally referenced files, etc.

Course Level: Beginner
Intended Audience: Users who are new to FM:Interact or current FM:Interact users who want to use AutoCAD drawings with FM:Interact.

Course Objectives:

  • Register a drawing with FM:Interact
  • Review best practices for polylines and drawing standards
  • Define exterior and interior gross boundaries
  • Link new rooms and spaces to FM:Interact
  • Sync and publish drawings to FM:Interact
  • Import existing rooms tags
  • Define and edit room attributes
  • Crosshatch and annotate drawings in AutoCAD with FM:Interact data
  • Reconfigure space

Revit for FM:Interact

In this 4 hour introductory course you will learn the requirements for using Revit models as floor plan drawings with FM:Interact. You will learn the features of the FM:Systems Revit Plug In, as well as best practices for polylines, layers, externally referenced files, etc.

Course Level: Beginner
Intended Audience: Users who are new to FM:Interact or current FM:Interact users who want to use Revit models with FM:Interact.

Course Objectives:

  • Explain the process of registering Revit models to FM:Interact floors
  • Create the custom “area schemes” used by FM:Interact
  • Demonstrate the process of defining space in Revit
  • Demonstrate how to sync FM:Interact and Revit
  • Demonstrate how to publish drawings to FM:Interact
  • Enhance Revit with data from FM:Interact
  • Reconfigure space in Revit
