Blazing a Path For Better Employee Experience: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Whether you’re a small business or a large enterprise with a global footprint, the way work gets done has changed. Today’s workforce is more mobile, flexible, and tech-savvy than ever before, requiring smart workplace solutions like hot desk reservation systems to attract the best talent.

But they are also diverse.

The events of 2020 left executives across the country asking, “Have we created a culture in the workplace that welcomes everyone regardless of their race, sex or sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin or ancestry, age, disability and political preferences?” as many felt helpless and disconnected from their workplace.

At FM:Systems, we believe that diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) is the DNA of every high performing organization – creating an environment where all employees can be their most authentic selves. When increasingly diverse backgrounds feel welcomed and connected, we allow for varying viewpoints and experiences to guide the day to day decision making that leads to robust innovation, increased productivity and overall company success.

An organization searching to build a stronger DEI strategy may implement stronger recruitment strategies or create internal mobility opportunities for underrepresented populations. Bringing more diverse people through the door is a place to start. However, in the new era of remote and hybrid workspaces, how companies help employees stay connected and feel a sense of belonging should be a part of all DEI strategies.

This MLK Day, we want to encourage companies of all sizes to bridge the gap between DEI and remote workplace practices to further strengthen employee trust, engagement, and loyalty. This can include:

  • Creating DEI goals during annual planning processes, holding top leaders accountable to hiring and retention of diverse teams.
  • Sharing organizational demographic data on a regular cadence with all employees so there is transparency, including historic data to demonstrate how the organization is progressing.
  • Making DEI a part of your organization’s culture from volunteer days to providing Election Day as a paid holiday to all employees for “inclusion practices” that promote empathy and awareness of all our differences.

At FM:Systems we strive to create a work environment where everyone belongs and is supported. We are committed to strengthening diversity, equality, and inclusion within our organization, and in the communities in which we live. It is that combination of strong DEI programs and smart workplace solutions that will deliver the ideal workplace experience for every employee – regardless of where that employee may work or what they may believe.

Our CEO, Kurt von Koch, said it best: “Because it’s the right thing to do.”
