The Newbie Guide: Introduction

Wtotal newbie (3)elcome, fellow newbies. My name is Alana Selby, and it is a pleasure to digitally meet you!

I’d like to introduce you to my new blog series – A Comprehensive Guide for the Total Newbie (aka The Newbie Guide).

The purpose of this blog series is to help all fledglings navigate the beautiful skies that is facilities management.

In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a fresh hire here at FM:Systems, which means I know absolutely nothing about anything (everyone’s gotta start somewhere, right?). And if you’re reading this blog, chances are we’re in the same boat! Awesome, welcome aboard!

My plan is to learn with you. As someone whose job is to now learn everything about space management, it’ll be interesting to document and share my learning experience with other new learners!

From one newbie to another, I’ll cover a variety of topics and (hopefully) make this an enjoyable learning experience for all willing participants.

Why bother learning from a fellow newbie like me, you ask? Because this newbie’s got the inside scoop! I’ll be learning all about the different modules and services straight from the pros themselves (aka my new coworkers!), and translate it into newbie-terms.

What to expect: Weird metaphors, badly-drawn scenarios, goofy descriptions, and attempted humor, followed by a profound understanding of the discussed topic.

Why: Many reasonewbiegraduatens! Teaching is the best learning exercise, and I want to be proficient in this field. I love breaking down processes in a way that’s digestible for all levels, and what better time to start than when I’m at the starting stage myself? I want this Newbie Guide to help you take your user experience to the next level, and become an FM:Pro!

I’m going to have fun with this project, and I hope you do, too!

With that said, thank you for stopping in! Be on the lookout for the very first chapter: What is Scenario Planning?

Until then,
